Snow Day!!

Since today was a real snow day, I posted some pics showing our winter wonderland.  Thankfully we had a plow come to clear our driveway.  We unburied our cars so he could finish where they were parked.  We got about 15-18 inches.  Other places got a little more.  Now we have just piles of snow everywhere.  The snow plows and trucks have been busy since last night and will continue until tomorrow to be ready for the morning commuters like me.  I like the snow, but prefer to drive on clear roads.  We were all asked to stay home today (yeah, not gonna argue with them on this one) so the plows (4000+) could do their job without hindrance, which included putting down many tons of sand and salt to clear the roads.  I'm glad they are prepared for weather like this.  We had to do some shoveling, but it wasn't too bad.  It was nice to warm up with some hot chocolate afterwords.

View of our porch.

View as we opened our door.

View of the lawn.

 Can you see our cars??

Shoveling with the snow still coming down, about 1-3 inches per hour.

There's my car!

You can see the depth of snow that was just on the porch, which isn't as much as other places due to some of it falling through the porch boards.

Patriot's Day April 19, 2010

I know it's a little late since Patriot's Day, but I thought I'd post these as they're also related to Memorial Day.  Below they did a reenactment of Paul Revere's ride from Boston to Lexington.  I'm grateful we live in this free country and am thankful for those who fought and are still fighting for our country and for freedom everywhere.  It was great to see so many patriotic people celebrating Patriot's Day and Memorial Day.

Finally, an update of sorts

I know it's been quite a while since I posted an update, so I'll post a quick update now of what I've been doing and why I've been busy and then I'll start the usual posts of pics of what I've/we've done and places we've been.  It seems like life has been non-stop since we moved here.  Since my last update about walking in the woods in Oct, I've been busy with the following (in order): walked through Salem for Halloween, was diagnosed with breast cancer in Nov. (stage 0, so it' was more like a pre-cancer), had surgery the day before Thanksgiving, had Thanksgiving at a friend's in the ward, moved that weekend, recovered in Dec, got put in Primary in our new ward, went to RI for Christmas, had radiation treatments in Jan & Feb, worked through a transition at work, had a followup visit in March that went well, moved again for the third time in a year, said good-bye to our Primary class & friends, got settled in our new place (we quite enjoy it), was welcomed back into our 'old' ward where we moved into when we first moved out here, bought mountain bikes in April, went riding a few times, went to the Smoky Mountains for our 7th anniversary, kept up with work and regular living, and now, we're just slowing down for a few days here and there as we plan weekend trips and activities as the summer is now here and there is so much to do and see.

I know that might seem like a lot of stuff, but I guess it is all part of life.  Even though there have been a lot of changes the past year or so, many are good ones.  Even though nobody wants a cancer diagnosis, we were in the best place for me to get treatment and make it easier.  Some of the best doctors and hospitals are in the Boston area, so I was in good hands.  I wasn't actually sick, as it was more like a pre-cancer, so I've had it easier than many, although it is still an adjustment.  Brian has been quite supportive and loving through it all.  I'll just have follow-up visits and screening tests as long as everything goes well.

Moving three times was a lot, but they each had their purposes.  We moved in Nov to be closer to my work and to be close to the hospital.  I was lucky to have the hospital on my way to work, so going to daily treatments wasn't as bad and allowed me to work the entire time.  Working helped the time go by and kept me busy and my co-workers were very supportive and helpful.  We then needed to move again so Brian could be closer to his work.  It was good timing, as my treatments were done too.  It worked out that we moved back into our old ward again, so I guess we are supposed to be there as the only place we liked and worked for us was just inside the ward boundary.

Through it all, I've/we've been watched over and blessed so we can get through things.  Some days it's been hard to remember that, but Brian has been there to remind me that it will all work out.  We've had fun biking and getting to know a few more places here.  We have several trips and activities planned, so I'll try to get my pics posted soon after.  So, that's it for my update for now.  :)

Middlesex Fells Reservation Walk

I know it's been a while.  I've been a little busy with some things.  Below are some pictures I took on a walk in October in the Middlesex Fells Reservation.  These areas and walks are all over the place and are quite beautiful.  I stumbled across the two benches and what looks like an old outside stone oven.  They like to preserve any old things as much as possible.

Spot Pond in the Fall

Below are pictures of Spot Pond in the Middlesex Fells Reservation.  There are several areas like this where they have made paths and parks around the many ponds that are in the area.  They are quite nice to walk, jog, or bike through, especially in the fall.  Some places weren't turning colors yet, so there is a nice mix of fall colors.  It was nice to relax and read, which is definitely better than sitting in class on a Saturday (poor Brian).

Fall in New England - Sunday drive to NH & ME

Fall in New England is quite beautiful, which is one of the reasons I love it here.  Here are some of the pictures I took on a drive to New Hampshire and Maine.  Enjoy.
